Graphics and Web Designing learning methods: How good home training is?

So, how good home training is for animators, graphics and web designers?

People including relatives, clients, friends and sometimes strangers ask me this every once in a while, so for anyone who is in search to know the best resource to learn graphics and/or web designing.

There are 3, you can join an institute, you can hire a private trainer or you also can do all on your own. There are advantages of each and I will discuss about them one by one. First stop would be the more beneficial method that is joining a proper institute.

Personally I prefer home tutoring as it suites me, it is a convenient option for me to teach and for student to learn from me.

But if I be honest with you than for better training and to gain better experience while learning to design and graphics, nothing can come close to the training you can get in a proper institute.

A common understanding is that individual learning can provide better focus on the topic to learn. It is true but designing is not something you read and start applying on the job. Designers need to know more than the tools they need to work with. For example

Exposure in community
Communication
Nature and requirement of task
Competition value of Job in hands
Understanding clients' demand and ideas

Benefits of a proper designing institute

+ Students find a proper and more fitted environment
+ Involving into group opinions and criticisms are important to grow young designers skills and imagination
+ Students get the opportunities to showcase their work to the right people without hesitation and with helpful feedbacks
+ Students can learn to be a bridge between others and their design projects
+ Students learn to represent their vision behind a project in more effective manners

In short, students learn to communicate the designers' way, which is important and helpful for a graphic student in his or her practical career.

Students of designing needs exposure among other people whether it is their own self or their workings. They need to be in an environment and in a group so they could train their minds to accept rise and fall of being in a team as it is the most important element of this field since they always have to work with and/or for others.

Environment in an institute also keep students engaged with each others where they can exchange and share ideas freely, which can help broadening the imaginative approach of each individual.

Students need to be able to take various criticisms and learn to work around them to improve their works even if criticisms are not meant for their projects. Good listening and good observation with calm and open mind is very important for learning new curves of dealing people.

In graphics designing job, one of important tasks is to interpreting the ideas others come up with, communicating with ideas of others, wishes and targets of clients, understanding the tasks and turning those inputs into your own unique signature style of creativity. It is fun, it gives good money and fame but only if designer is trained to do it or else its steps toward repeated failure, frustration and at the end, a bad reputation.

Most importantly, students need to finish a project under a serious time frame while dealing with many other things that could be happening in their surrounding. That is a much much needed training student only get when they are in a competitive environment that cannot be simulate in private learning process in any way known to me.

Nothing pleases more to clients or employers than a well finished design job done right on or before the time given. If designer manage to do that, he or she is the winner.

A quick side note: Repeated and continuous practice helps you understand how much time you, as designer need to get the job finish. Practices also train you to work faster and easier.

No matter how good, strict a teacher is, if student is not into an specific environment, the grooming as designer will not be complete during the training. Some would say (and I know many believes) the 'job' teaches everything but that's a plain lame excuse. Yes job teaches you but that wouldn't be a good experience, nor good for your name and your respect.

In other things that graphics designer can learn in a group is to explaining his or her design projects, ideas and visions. Exchanging different opinions between group members can be very helpful in increasing skills.

Sharing the knowledge is the best way to learn. You would never loose something by sharing but you will always gain from it.

Remember it is all about communication and for that you need to be among more than one person.

Now if you want to know when you need help from a private trainer to learn graphics and designing, wait for part 2.
